And to highlight the event, we've replaced our standard weekly update with the following interactive poll, entitled: "How agreeable are the following Federal Parties and Party Leaders?"
So read the rules (and other tidbits) on our page: The Rules
Take the poll: The Poll
And read our humble opinion about voting in these elections:
1. MAKE AN EFFORT! ONCE EVERY 4-5 YEARS WON'T KILL YOU!!!
Go VOTE!!! Even if none of the parties or candidates tickle your fancy, you must go vote. This does not mean that you should vote for the least worst - you can cancel your vote instead!!!
This sends a clear message that you don't find any of them worthy! And imagine if the 40% who didn't vote in the last election had done that instead of turning to apathy - it would truly have made a statement!!!
2. DINNER AND A BALLOT
Spread the word: everyone must vote. Hey, while you're at it, bring a friend (or a few!) along with you. Go for lunch or dinner together and drop by the polls along the way...
3. STRATEGIC VOTING SUCKS
If you intend to vote for a specific party, don't vote to counter-balance another party that you don't like (or don't want to see in power). This is a travesty of democracy! If everyone does that then we can never know what the public truly intended.
Vote for whoever you actually like - even if the vote is "wasted". Maybe someday we'll get proportional representation and it will make a huge difference then!
And, think about it: if too many people try to counter-balance each other's vote, then we might give some bastard a majority government - and that's really not in our interest at this point!
4. THE END OF OUR WORLD STARTS HERE
Whatever you do, don't vote Conservative. Sure, we dislike Paul Martin and the Liberals as much (if not more!) than most of you, but don't make it a vote for an even more disturbing party!!!
They are not the same Progressive Conservatives that many have grown to casually dislike - they are the Alliance (who were once the Reform Party) and they would seemingly like to make Canada more like the United States. The Liberals unwittingly did enough of that in the last decade - and we don't need to put the final nail into Canada's dying dreams!!!
Sure, Stephen Harper is the most professional -and thereby most enticing- of the lot, but his platform is a dangerous mistep in the same direction as Bush and his Republican cronies. Don't get sucked in by the clean-cut image!!!
5. THE RIGHT TO BITCH
Not voting strips you of any right to whine, moan, and complain about the state of affairs in this country. Why? Because you just let it happen. You sat there on your lazy, apathetic butt and said "meh". Well, if the government ticks you off for some reason, or wrongs you somehow, then don't turn to the rest of us for sympathy. All you get is "meh".
So get out there, and make a choice - there are plenty of options to choose from.
